My experience visiting Dr. Merchant was extremely positive.  I am a new patient referred by Dr. Bruce Jordan for a precedure that required a specialist.  I had not made an appointment yet when I experienced major tooth pain while visiting a higher elevation location over the holidays.  As soon as I returned, I phoned Dr. Merchant's emergency line and left a voicemail.  Dr. Merchant returned my call promptly, was concerned and made arrangements for me to be seen as soon as possible. 

Apparently, the situation had been aggrevated by the higher elevation, causing an abcess and a great deal of pain.  By 11am that morning, I was taken care of and free of the pain! :)  I never even needed the pain medication Dr. Merchant prescribed for me.

I returned to the office for a follow-up visit to complete the root canal and was once again pleased with the service and treatment.  The office staff is friendly and helpful, the office is meticulous and professional and Dr. Merchant is not only kind and informative but obviously extremely skilled.

Thank you again for helping me out in my situation.  I have several additional procedures that need to be done and I feel confident in putting my dental care in the hands of Dr. Merchant..

At the age of just about 72 I've spent many hours in the hands of a dentist because I never had the benefits of fluorides growing up.  During the second world war I had my teeth repaired with dull high speed tools.  I had my first root canal in the early fifties.  As you can see I know my way around many dentist's office.
The reason for this note I just wanted to let you know that you are the most professional dentist I've ever dealt with in all that time.  Being a toolmaker who appreciates good craftsmanship, I was confident when I left your office today the job had been done as well as it could have been done using present technology.  I wanted you to know I appreciated it.

Just a follow-up note from my visit and session with you yesterday.  I was impressed with the complete ease and painless treatment of the root canal work on my tooth.  Probably like many others who come to you for a first time root canal I was not looking forward to the experience.

To my amazement (and I don't use that word often) it was truly painless.....as well as the following 24 hours.  I have used the Aleve a few times and slept a normal 7- 7 1/2 hours without ANY discomfort or problems with the tooth.  And as you could tell I am not a fan of pain when it comes to my teeth.

Thanks for operating a very professional outfit (all members of your staff I encountered), having a relaxed procedure, taking the time to thoroughly explain all aspects of the procedure, and most of all for being painless!

I have had two root canals in the past with different dentists which now required retreatment.  AFter the first tooth was finished I can safely say you are the best.  You completely changed my opiion about what to expect in a very good way.  The procedure was very fast and painless.  The stafff was amazing as well.  THey are professional, friendly and very knowledgeable.

I feel completely at ease going in for my second tooth today knowing how easily you handled the first tooth.

This dentist was a miracle worker for ME!!!!  I was having extensive work on my mouth through another endodontist who is excellent as well.  I had 2 root canals and a deep filling.  I kept having alot of pain.  My endodontist sent me to Dr. Merchant for a consult.  After x-raying my teeth, he told me my teeth we fine, but I was having serious pain because of my jaw.  He got me off all pain meds, gave me a muscle relaxer and after 2 days I was PAIN FREE!!!  His staff was polite and they charged me a very minimal for the consultation.  I have nothing but great things to say about this Dr. and will be recommending him liberally to everyone I know!

Dr. Merchant finished my root canal today- I can't say enough about this doctor. He is so patient, so compassionate & so competent. If I moved out of state, & ended up needing another root canal, I would travel far & wide to have Dr. Merchant take care of it. He's that good!!!

Dr. Merchant is an excellent Endodontist.  If you want the job done correctly then he's your man.  Dr. Merchant uses the most advanced technology, and is realistic in his diagnosis.  Being a dental professional myself, I have witnessed hundreds of successful root canals coming from his office without complaint.  He may not be the cheapest gig in town, but you get what you pay for.  Inexpensive dentistry truly ends up costing more in the end. Trust me. 
And just to note:  His front office staff, have always been friendly, competent and helpful in all of my experiences
 

I was in excruciating pain when I first called this office. They got me in that very day. Even though that meant they were in working up until about 7 p.m.....thanks to me.
I needed an emergency root canal. Dr. Merchant came highly recommended by Dr. Gary Carr's office. Dr. Carr was scheduled to be out of town. Any recommendation from Dr. Carr or his people is a recommendation I would respect. Dr. Cary is legendary in the field of  Endodontic Dentistry.
Dr. Merchant not only took me in immediately...as an emergency appointment...but he did an excellent job on the root canal itself.

Very Professional office. The Dr. is super nice! His assistant and him worked together so well, I thought they could read each others minds... There was absolutely no Bull. He cut to what he could do and what it would cost and then he did the job. He was working on my daughter and I sat nearby so not having the stress of a drill in my mouth I was able to observe and was highly impressed.

I was referred to Dr. Merchant after my dentist of 30 years was unable to get me into their office for an emergency appt.  I was in severe and intolerable pain.  I was overwhelmed and angry that my dentist could not see me, even after I explained my symptoms.  I called Dr. Merchant's office and his staff did not hesitate to advise Dr. Merchant of my condition.  He personally called me back immediately and asked me several  questions regarding my tooth pain.  Before I could finish describing my condition, he told me to come into his office.  I explained to him that I lived over 2 hours away.  He told me to come first thing in the morning so he could see me.  He gave me suggestions on how to temporarily relieve the pain.  He assured me that there was no need for me to continue being in pain and he would take care of me.  When I awoke, I drove for 2 hours to see Dr. Merchant.  I was greeted as soon as I walked into his office.  His staff treated me as if I had been a patient there for years.  They took me straight back to see Dr. Merchant.  He was extremely kind, professional, and genuine. I felt so comfortable and at ease from the moment I sat down in the examining chair.  He completed a root canal and the pain was instantly gone. I felt great before I left his office. I  would drive 8 hours in the event I had to have another procedure completed.  I would highly recommend Dr. Merchant to anyone.  He and his staff are what good old fashioned medical professionals used to be and "all medical professionals" should aspire to be.  Great experience!!

I suppose I've reached a milestone of sorts as I've just had my first root canal procedure and I felt compelled to write this review on account of my experience with Dr. Merchant and his staff.

First off, Dr. Merchant gets high marks for integrity.  Two years ago I was referred to him by my dentist to check out a problem tooth.  He used his in-office CAT scan to investigate the problem, which he identified as "resorption" and recommended I see an oral surgeon rather than use his services.

This past week, however, I was in need of his services.  Dr. Merchant is meticulous in his work, and takes the time to check and double check during the procedure.  As an example, when I was back for the second step of the procedure (two weeks after the initial step) he was concerned that there was still some sensitivity and took a CAT scan to verify that there were no issues  at the bone-root interface.   It turned out that all was as expected and we finished up.

It is clear that he and his staff have an excellent relationship.  During the procedure the communication between Dr. Merchant and his assistant was almost as if they were thinking with one mind.   As I mentioned earlier, Dr. Merchant is meticulous, but on account of his skill and the professionalism of his staff, he is able to get the job done fairly quickly.

Just finished up a root canal with Dr Merchant and I'm extremely pleased with the experience. Dr Merchant is patient and takes the time to fully explain the procedure. Everyone in the office is friendly and helpful - they make make the office visit as stress free as it can be. I would use Dr. Merchant again if needed.

I traveled to Carlsbad from Los Angeles County to see Dr Merchant on short notice  and referred by a friend. I wasn't sure what to expect since I don't live in the community. I was very surprised at the professionalism I received both from Dr Merchant and his staff. It reminded me of the way things use to be in his profession prior to the commercialization of his industry. I was in pain and needed a correction from a botched procedure from a dentist in my community. Dr Merchant was very thorough in explaining why I was in pain and proceeded to go over how he was going to fix the problem. I feel 100% better and I want thank Dr Merchant for the wonderful experience . I strongly recommend Dr Merchant to all my family, friends, colleagues and everyone reading this testimony.

Dr Merchant and his team are amazing! I called late morning for an appointment and they got me in early that same afternoon! He saw me first for consultation and then treated my problem and got me out of pain.  I was in and out in an hour and I didn't feel a thing. I truly appreciate his sincere care and concern. I highly recommend Dr Merchant and his office!!!

A couple of years ago I chipped my front tooth causing a lot of temperature sensitivity to certain foods.  I thought, "oh great, I'm going to need a root canal on this", knowing that had happened to another tooth of mine years ago.  Not the best thing to think of when it's your front tooth.  Anyway, I spoke to my general dentist and she suggested I see Dr. Merchant to see if it was necessary.  I didn't want to take any chances and since I knew of other people who had great experiences in this office I thought I should at least have him rule it out.

What an amazing doctor this guy is.  Honestly, one of the easiest to talk to, knowledgeable, caring dentists I'd ever been to.  He had his assistant take some digital x-rays of my tooth, and also this really cool CT Scan that showed the inside of my tooth to see if there was any damage under the surface.

After he reviewed it, Dr. Merchant administered some physical tests on the tooth.  He said that at the time, he wouldn't recommend treatment but that if the temperature sensitivity got any worse in the future, to be sure to come back and see him as it might be possible after some time. 

As a precaution he applied some type of "de-sensitizer" to the surface of my tooth and I was on my way.  To my relief, the application worked and my tooth stopped having the sensitivity.

The office staff filed my insurance claim that day, and had received payment within a couple of weeks- also fairly quick based on experience with other offices. 

Point is, it's been over 2 years and my tooth has never had the temperature sensitivity again! :)  I was just so impressed with the lengths Dr. Merchant and his staff were willing to go to for a tooth that DIDN'T EVEN NEED a root canal.  I can't imagine how amazing these guys are for people that actually do need one.  Their follow-up is outstanding as well.  They still periodically check up on me to see how my tooth is doing and I'm happy to say "excellent".  

Incredible, Incredible, Incredible office!

I was referred to an oral surgeon for an implant after my prior root canal failed. The oral surgeon sent me to Dr. Merchant because he thought it could be saved and that Dr. Merchant was the best in San Diego for root canals.  Dr. Merchant did his magic and after a couple appointments the infection was gone and I got to keep my tooth. All in all the procedure was painless!!  I would highly recommend Dr. Merchant.  Don't Hesitate!

He did a great work.
Recently my daughter had to see him again for another root canal. Due to her extensive radiation treatment from cancer  her jaw she is limited in opening . My daughter and I new it was going to be challenge for  Dr. Merchant to get in there and do the root canal. Dr. Merchant was able to complete the root canal. I was astonished by Dr. Merchant's work. He did an amazing job in completing it.
